HTC and Sony team up for PlayStation Mobile gaming

Sony’s PlayStation Mobile Android gaming platform is coming to HTC smartphones later this year
Sony on Monday revealed that it is re-branding its PlayStation Suite gaming platform to PlayStation Mobile, according to a new report. The move was announced during a keynote presentation at the E3 gaming conference in Los Angeles, Calif.
While Sony claims its PlayStation Suite beta has been a rousing success, the service has failed to attract consumers and any excitement. Part of the problem is that Sony failed to bring the actual PlayStation game to phones; something it promised when the PlayStation Suite launched last October.
During the presentation, Sony also announced HTC as its first third-party partner for the platform. HTC enjoyed lots of success on the Android platform in recent years, but has struggled as of late. I’m sure Sony is hoping PlayStation Mobile will help attract new customers — something it desperately needs.
While no specific devices were mentioned, the new HTC One X was shown off as an example of the Sony/HTC collaboration. It’d be nice to see this launch on older HTC phones as well, but we’ll just have to see about that.
So, will Sony’s mobile gaming plans make a splash this time around? Right now, it is too early to tell. The platform sounds extremely exciting, but Sony really has to deliver. Last year it promised a lot and didn’t deliver much. The company is going to need classic PlayStation games on Android phones and tablets if it wants this to succeed.
